This holiday season over 50,000 New Yorkers, nearly half of them children, will spend the night in a homeless shelter. It’s a startling number. Though even more concerning, for far too many of these vulnerable individuals and families this is not a one-time occurrence – it’s an alarming cycle. A cycle that must stop.
As a supporter of West End, you know that our comprehensive, individualized services work to do just this. At Intergenerational Residence, homeless young mothers and their children receive services above and beyond the status quo. Providing shelter is not enough for us – West End works daily to ensure that these young mothers leave with the skills and confidence to not only obtain true self-sufficiency, but to maintain it. West End’s older adults enjoy permanent, supportive housing in which they are able to live their later years with dignity and quality of life. At True Colors Residence, formerly homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender young adults find permanent housing, support services, and a sense of community without fear of prejudice. In the coming year, we will begin construction on True Colors Bronx, opening yet another set of doors for this vulnerable population.
Without supporters like you, we would not be so successful. Your generous commitment is a source of encouragement to everyone at West End. This holiday season, we hope that you will continue to join us in helping our residents thrive.
As always, thank you for your generosity and dedication. The entire West End community wishes you and your loved ones peace, happiness, and continued success in the New Year.
P.S. Last year our generous supporters helped us exceed our $20,000 fundraising goal. This year, we’ve upped the stakes and set our sights on raising $30,000, which will go a long way in helping West End to provide vital services to the most vulnerable New Yorkers. We hope we can count on you to join us!
