As I write this letter, New York City is more than two months’ into stay at home mandates due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Protests have erupted worldwide over the senseless death of George Floyd at the hands of the police. The anger and frustration are real, especially for the communities we serve.
Together, we’re providing the tools and care for them to heal and thrive.
The staff have risen to the challenge and adapted to new ways of providing service and maintaining agency operations. I am honored to work with such committed and dedicated individuals.
Behind the scenes, we continue to move forward on two major projects, albeit with expected delays. First, we are developing a third True Colors Supportive Housing site that will provide supportive housing for 50 homeless LGBTQ young adults.
Second, we are preparing for major renovations at our Intergenerational Residence, a one-hundred-year-old building. The upgrades include modernized building systems to add energy efficiency, renovated staff offices and community spaces, and increased accessibility features for seniors.
We look forward to updating you on our progress. Please sign up for email news at westendres.org/updates.
On behalf of our staff, board and residents, thank you for your donations of meals, masks, cleaning supplies, toys for the young children, puzzles for the seniors, and monetary contributions. Your generosity is life-changing for homeless families and individuals.
Stay healthy and safe,
Jeannette K. Ruffins
